Education and Training

Our Massage Therapists were required to take a rigorous 3000 hour training program and sit extensive professional examinations before becoming registered to practise. This can be compared to a university bachelor degree which typically averages 1,500 hours over four years. Standard educational requirements include comprehensive studies in health sciences such as anatomy, physiology, pathology, kinesiology and neuroanatomy. Other studies include clinical sciences such as manual skills, orthopedics, remedial exercise, hydrotherapy and patient education. The management of chronic diseases, injuries and the effects of long-term stress are also studied extensively.

Massage can be used for:

  • Relaxation/Stress Relief
  • Prevention from injury
  • Rehabilitation from injury
  • Reducing Pain & Inflammation
  • Increase Circulation
  • Treat areas of discomfort

Benefits of massage

It is widely understood that massage therapy decreases stress and helps control pain. Perhaps less known is the effectiveness of massage therapy in treating deeper structures of the body such as ligaments, bones and joints, fascia, blood vessels, organs and other soft tissues of the body. Massage therapy can provide relief for many common conditions such as migraine headaches, tendonitis, arthritis, osteoporosis, fibromyalgia, sports injuries and various other soft tissue sprains and strains. Massage Therapy vs Bodywork

  • Registered Massage Therapist’s (RMT’s) are regulated by a publicly appointed board that is formulated for your protection (CMT)
  • RMT’s are accountable and must adhere to strict ethics
and bylaws of the health professions act of British Columbia
  • RMT’s are required to keep their skills current through
    a structured professional development schedule
  • RMT’s must hold malpractice insurance
  • Treatment plans are formulated based on assessment
  • RMT’s are covered by most extended health plans

Draping

One common concern for new patients to massage therapy is what parts of their body will be exposed to the therapist.  You will only be asked to disrobe to your comfort level and the area being treated will be the only area exposed. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this matter your therapist will
be happy to accommodate you in any way they can.

A typical massage treatment from start to finish
Upon your initial visit:

  1. You will be asked specific questions regarding your area of
    concern.
  2. Your therapist will then take you through diagnostic testing
  3. Massage Therapy Treatment
  4. Follow up testing and suggestions for exercises/stretching/hydrotherapy

Extended Health Plans

If you have extended coverage, please inquire with your plan administrator
or coverage booklets for reimbursement rates and procedures. All
fees must be paid in full before submitting for reimbursement.
Ask us for an EXTENDED HEALTH RECEIPT when you are ready to send
in a claim.

At this time Jennifer Willson, RMT accepts direct billing to Pacific Blue Cross and other select insurance plans may be available. Call us for more information: 250-744-1776
